Hello, where is the Bridge? Reflexology/TCM Sneaker as a Bridge?

A year of so called “unprecedented”.
Sending wishes of healing all around.

In New York yesterday, March 14 we commemorated one year of Covid.
Lincoln Center participated with candles surrounding the beautiful fountain and by dimming the campus.

But what was NIKE thinking? It’s 2021.
Actions are more effective than symbols; and then the offensive name:

The NIKE sneaker is called Kiss of Death and we are in the middle of layering global crises.

NIKE’s “reflexology sneaker” is meant to be a bridge between East and West.

Is it meant to inspire curiosity in reflexology and TCM?

I am a certified reflexologist based in NYC, one of many faces/voices behind the reflexology map around the world if you will.

A shut down world. It has been a year of so called unprecedented - loss of life, pain, confusion, polarization, isolation, loss of livelihood, etc.

I am sorry to even have to bring this up, but it seems there is never a right time for uncomfortable issues.

However, whatever someone’s perspective might be, change is needed, and as consumers get more and more conscious - and they will I think - corporations will have to be more aware of their actions.
Nike failed.  One of my friends immediately said to boycott them and provided a link to reasons why.

I even found several FB pages called “Boycott Nike”.  I had no idea.  I am not into Nike.

So here are some ideas surrounding being a true bridge between East and West in this context:

Is NIKE aware that hate crimes against Asians/Asian Americans are on the rise?

Can Nike support Asians, Asian/American survivors of hate crimes by providing funds for mental health support and possibly trauma-informed somatic care such as reflexology and yoga (these are my favorites and TCM, of course)?

Can Nike pay for services like TCM and Reflexology for underserved populations?

Can NIKE offer their platform to honor TCM and reflexology and the communities behind the maps instead of just USING “our maps”?

Perhaps these are the bridges they are indeed trying to build:

There are reflexologists/TCM practitioners across the world and they have associations, and I bet many would appreciate brainstorming with NIKE about building bridges to start the healing.

Thank you for reading.
To healing not ideas about healing...

B.
