Some Feedback (Reflexology)

“Re: My reflexology was like walking on air, on my way home.”

Please, note reflexology in this case meant about 25 minutes of hands-on work; the recipient opted for foot reflexology and some hand reflexology.

Feedback is always appreciated.  Thank you!
As practitioner I learn from every participant.  (My work is trauma-sensitive and the person who seeks me out is a participant rather than a client; please, note, everybody can benefit from trauma-sensitive service).
Thank you for your visit as always,

B.

Is the Term “Reflex” Integral to Reflexology?

Is the term reflex integral* to Reflexology?

Somewhere in the US, reflexologists are not allowed to use the word reflex.  I would  like to suggest to our community to draw the line here for possible future definitions and consider standing our ground.

What Reflexology is allowed to be “defined” as depends to a very large degree on what legislators are told by parties outside the field of reflexology (lobbyists) making sure reflexology does not infringe on their field, their lingo and it has gotten pretty weird for the lack of a better word.

Receiving and Giving at Kripalu

Receiving: Positional Therapy.
I finally had my first session with Sally at Kripalu.   It was a wonderful experience and as a Reflexologist I was smitten with the fact that face, ears, feet and hands were visited during my 50-minute session.  S. made me laugh when she called my body buttery and easy to work with while it felt to me that she used my body as if it were clay.  I mentioned to her that I do daily Reflexology and Yoga.   We agreed that daily self care makes a big difference.

At one of my corporate events I met a lawyer who said that positional therapy “fixes” him when I mentioned Lee Albert (mentioned on this blog previously.  Lee Albert developed Positional Therapy) who advises that using a rolled up pillow seems to be the best way to support alignment during prolonged sitting.  Most of us get tired very quickly sitting which results in gravity taking over aka slouching and muscular strain.

YogaActivist(s) and Feature

- Sending cheers and gratitude to DC-based Yoga Activist for their support of yoga teachers, by providing a platform to share about our outreach, and so much more:

- Thank your for the support, grant, and inspiration.  Many thanks for the feature.  Many thanks to Kate Rice for editing, see link to article at the bottom.

- There are so many yogi/yoginis taking yoga beyond more traditional studio settings and to communities that may not easily have access to yoga.

Who are these fellow practitioners?
Why do they do the work they do?
How do they do it?
What are challenges, etc., etc.
Which community do they serve?

- I am inviting you to take a look at their page (see link  at the bottom).

Examining Life in Central Park

This lady is examining life...
Amanda was in a way one of my favorite quotes coming to life, even more so because she looked like she stepped out of Ancient Greece.  While she calls her project Examining Life, the quote I am talking about is  The unexamined life is not worth living by Socrates.

We encountered her at the end of a long walk on a Saturday morning in spring; it was sunny and hot.  It was fun to go on camera so spontaneously.  In case you end up watching the video,  I had to keep an eye on Mowgli who was frolicking in the grass with Gus whom you can not see here while Anastasia and Regal were speaking, and I did not even know I was in the frame, while the two were speaking.

Stone Foot Path Coach and Regal's Achilles Tendons

Back in Taipei (after the ICR Conference and Gina Stewart’s RVP at Garden of Hope in Taitung) Regal took me to a park he had explored previously.
The Reflexology path (stone foot path) there was different from the ones I had seen before.  It entailed three benches on the path itself and  one texture only, and there was a map of the feet’s reflexes with labeling in Chinese characters and in English.

We had such a good time; I walked back and forth twice slowly, enjoying every step, aware that it would be the last time.  When I was about to leave I found myself "coaching" Sharon (see photo below).  She said she did not learn how to do this.

9/11 Part One: Supporting 9/11 First Responders and Families

Reflexology at the bottom

It seems so fresh and yet so far away, 9/11, that is.

Reflexology was offered via CRREW (many thanks to CRREW) at the annual Voices of 9/11 event at Downtown Marriott very close to the 9/11 Memorial.

I did this event once before and have worked in many communal settings.  The reflexology community I am part of (NYSRA) also did 3 fund raisers to benefit STWS (I have mentioned them in previous posts) which has been supporting the 9/11 community with holistic services.

My wonderful colleague Carol Schwartz who was also part of the 3 fundraisers in 2011 and I offered:

·      Foot reflexology
·      Hand reflexology

Puppy Stress: Is Shelter, Food, And Love Enough?

Out and about with Mowgli
This is what happened one recent morning in the West 50s (Hell's Kitchen/Clinton) within ten minutes on the way back home:

- A tiny dog, very friendly, and not afraid of Mowgli at all.  I chat with the owner.  Puppy lost one eye due to abuse by his former owner, but seems utterly happy just to be alive.  Nevertheless, this puppy would benefit from daily puppy reflexology despite the fact that it seems unaffected.

- An owner sitting on the stoop with his puppy,
a handsome pit bull, small but muscular.  He gets

IN MEMORIAM ANNA (Year of the Frog)

Anna's cranes
Last summer I found myself in the hospice section at Beth Israel.  One of my YCT clients was there.  To protect her privacy I am calling her Anna.  Anna and I had become friendly and I had worked with her a couple of times outside of YCT Foundation (YCT).  She loved reflexology and acupuncture and felt very comfortable with me, she said.

At the hospital I found out from her brother that she had been battling cancer for fifteen years.  Fifteen years.  I had no idea.  Only a year earlier she invited me to see her perform at a community center.  She had so much grace, she moved so effortlessly.  I enjoyed watching her.  Leading up to the performance she told me how busy she was with dance rehearsals.

Ancient Tomb Painting Alive in Brooklyn, NY, USA! - Reflexology Has Come a Long Way Like Yoga!

 "live" tomb painting
- If you are a reflexologist, please, take a close look.  I'd like to think the reflexes worked on area the pituitary gland reflexes (more or less in the center of the thumb/toe prints).

Here is more info about the painting
- Speaking of which, "do not let it by painful," that is, if you have ever had a reflexology session, you may know that some areas might be sensitive, depending on the health of your feet, genetics, your general health, etc.
