Reflexology at the bottom |
It seems so fresh and yet so far away, 9/11, that is.
Reflexology was offered via CRREW (many thanks to CRREW) at the annual Voices of 9/11
event at Downtown Marriott very close to the 9/11 Memorial.
I did this event once before and
have worked in many communal settings.
The reflexology community I am part of (NYSRA) also did 3 fund raisers
to benefit STWS (I have mentioned them in previous posts) which has been supporting the
9/11 community with holistic services.
My wonderful colleague Carol Schwartz who was also part of the 3 fundraisers in 2011 and I
offered:
· Foot reflexology
· Hand reflexology
There was also reiki, chair massage, and of course, acupuncture in a the usual communal format.
I personally am in favor of all holistic disciplines because they relax, and support innate healing, and empower. However, I really
just know the most common ones.
However, I am aware of other practitioners who may favor the one they chose. This also applies to clients; they may prefer one over the other, or they may favor anything holistic. Communal and multi-discipline settings gives those who do not like needles a chance to get chair massage or experience reiki or hand and foot reflexology.

And indeed, many clients went from
practitioner to practitioner and tried something new.
Sometimes
there was speaking, and sometimes silence, but there were also tears. As practitioners we hold space. Communal settings often amplify wellbeing.
It is an honor to work with the 9/11 First Responders and impacted
families (the firehouse close to us lost more fire fighters than any other). It would be so helpful if services like the above were available to them by default. It would greatly enhance the healing, the science is available.
First world countries are all about quality of life.
Integrative care (medical care and holistic methods of healing) is not a new idea, it is so much needed, and yet...

(And if I may; wondering what our presidential candidates think about this. Wouldn't it be nice to introduce them all to reflexology and other disciplines; I heard that DT's second wife used reflexology, and Hilary Clinton would be helped greatly by reflexology during this time of crisis. And Bernie I heard has been seen with needles. And Jill Stein? She is an MD. Is she in favor of integrative care?)
